Party Planning

"I'm going to have a fairy princess party for my birthday, Katherine."

"Really? I thought you wanted to go to Disney World."

"Oh yeah, Disney World. I forgot about that."

"Maybe you could have your fairy princess party at Disney World."

"Ooh, that's a good idea! There will be lots of princesses at Disney World and I can wear wings since I'll be a fairy. What are you going to do for your birthday, Katherine?"

"It's going to be so much fun! First, I'm going to read a lot of books. Then, I'm going to New Zealand."

"New Zealand?"

"Yeah...or, I mean, maybe New Orleans. Whatever it's called, I'm going to eat a lot of gumbo while I'm there!"

The girls' birthdays are still months away, but party planning has become part of the daily conversation at our house. By spring, I think they're each going to expect a ten-layer cake on the steps of the Taj Mahal or something!

  1. We have a few birthdays coming up and it is the same here. One wants an angry bird party another wants ice cream cake with peanut butter cup on top.

  2. Might as well go big, right? I like the way they think.

  5. Ha! Gumbo! I love these conversations and the so-big imaginations at this age. My nine year old daughter has big plans to go to New York.
    So, so sweet.

    1. Yes! I love the way the world is at once both immediate and far flung, completely possibly and wildly fantastic. It's fun!

  6. Aim for the stars, right? My Anthony is the same way. Such a beautiful dreamer! I love it. I know you do, too. :)
