Penelope was in a story-telling mood this morning. Enjoy!
A Story

The End.
A Different Story
(as told by Penelope, age 4)
Once upon a time, there was a little girl named Katherine. She thought of getting new shoes, but her mother took her to get a Christmas dress instead. It was raining. Katherine didn't want to go out on a rainy day. Mama said, "We'll make hot cocoa when we get home!" That cheered Katherine up. Christmas was coming that day. (Note: Not the real today.) Katherine liked to go to school. Her sister, Penny, liked to go to school, too, but Christmas was a stay-at-home day. While Mommy and Katherine were shopping, Daddy said, "Penelope, get ready for school!" Daddy didn't know any better than to tease. It was Christmas holiday! Mommy came home real quick! Penelope said, "Mommy, is it a stay-at-home day?" Mommy said, "yes!" It started raining even harder. Mommy couldn't take Katherine and Penelope out to buy dresses because they'd get soaked. She couldn't take them out to buy shoes because they'd get soaked. But then it stopped raining! The rain fell asleep, but then it was night, so they still couldn't go out to buy dresses. The next day came. It was too bad.
The End.
The Next Morning
(as told by Penelope, age 4)
"Oh, whew! It's not raining," Mommy said. "We can go out to buy dresses now while Daddy teases the house."
"But Penelope won't be there," said Katherine.
Mommy said, "Where will Penelope be?"
Katherine said, "She should be with us!"
Then Mommy said, "Where is Penelope?"
Then Katherine said, "Where is Penelope?"
Penelope said, "Peek-a-boo!" She'd been hiding behind Katherine the whole time!
Then a nightlight came along. Penelope was scared. She just stood there feeling scared and hoping the nightlight was Santa. It had legs and a face and some Santa Claus hair and two hands; the nightlight was Santa. Then another nightlight came along. This nightlight was Mrs. Claus. (Mrs. Claus has an odd name.)
Penelope didn't ask Santa why he'd turned into a nightlight. He's magic, remember?
The End.
A writer in the making! LOVE the stories. Especially the line about why Penelope didn't ask Santa why he'd turned into a nightlight. :) Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us, and Merry Christmas!
Those are so precious!! You should keep all of her stories in a special place and share them with her someday.
ReplyDeleteAnd now she's a published author at age 4! Keep encouraging her. I love her stories.
ReplyDeleteWhat imagination! I wonder what made Santa a night light in her mind. Jackson's stories often involve "battle guns," a certain amount of destruction, and a lot of "dead gummets." It is refreshing to look at the world from a little girl's eyes.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jackson! What's a gummet? Life with him sounds like a great adventure! :-)
DeleteBy the way, I still can't see your blog for some reason. Did you decide to keep it private?
Ha! "Dead gummet" is an exclamation. As in, "Dead gummet, they got my battle gun!" Yes, it is quite an adventure. No, I changed the settings. Or I thought I did...
DeleteOH. The rain fell asleep. That is precious beyond words. And YES- magic. It is all so magical!
ReplyDeleteThis was adorable. :)
