The Piano and the Wind

From the upper left-hand corner of my apartment three piano chords repeat themselves again and again. They're long and extended, and every four seconds there's a crescendo, but there isn't a piano; it's just the wind.

Outside, the rain is falling sideways; the sky is white. The temperature rose 15 degrees during the night and this morning Katherine said, the trees seem angry, Mommy, and Penelope nodded.

Maybe they're trying to blow the rain away, I offered.

Instead, they blow the tarp off of a trashcan and garbage skitters down the street.
The piano begins its crescendo.

Decrescendo.

Crescendo. Crescendo.

  8. Your words are beautiful. I can hear it--the tune. I can see the story in the song.

  10. Right outside my office window, I can hear the wind shushing in the trees - it is my favorite sound. When it is angry, I know I have tree limbs to pick up and things to chase across the yard but I still love it! I loved this post, too!! Thanks for visiting. And yeah, it's hard to unplug and so easy to be sucked back into "the system" (as you called it). Too many great bloggers!

  14. The wind can be fierce here where we live as well. I've never thought of it in piano terms before! Our wind just usually howls. Hope you're having a nice day!

  19. Oh, this post was lovely! Short yet so succinct in its message. Rainy days always make me feel nostalgic and when you add wind, well, that's another story! :)

  20. I wish the temperature would go up 15 degrees overnight here! The wind has been strong here as well, keeping as awake as it whistles round the house. :(
