Morning baths. Stiff fabrics. Christmas dresses.
The moment she realized she wasn't going to be dancing.
Train after train after train.
Soba at the station.
Standing outside the theater, and quickly...
Katherine's hand slipped in my hand. A little girl's hair bow silhouetted against the stage. Penelope, snuggled deep in her daddy's lap, hands pressed against her cheeks, gasping as the Mouse King launched his attack. Penelope, arms outstretched now, fingers spread, dancing the Dance of the Snowflakes. The rustle of two, little skirts in the darkness. Then, as the Sugarplum Fairy gathered her delights, Katherine's whispered exclamation:
Oh Mama, it's beautiful.
Look! Oh, look!
Do you see this, Mama?

so glad you all got to go see this!!!

ReplyDeleteLove the Nutcracker and I can't wait for Addy to be old enough to go, but until the I will just soak up every moment of her being a baby.
ReplyDeleteHow fun!
ReplyDeleteAnd they look so cute in their Christmas dresses!
I remember taking my daughter around that age. What a wonderful day for them and they look so pretty in those gorgeous dresses.
ReplyDeleteI love it! The magic of Christmas and Theatre is amazing!
ReplyDeleteI remember when you were the little girl in the pretty dress going to see The Nutcracker for the first time. It doesn't seem like enough time has passed for you to be doing the same thing with two little girls of your own, but how I love seeing them experience the magic!
