Nice Boys, Ninjas, and The Case Against Famous Men

"So tell me about your day, Katherine! How was school? Who did you play with at recess?"

"Oh, I didn't play today at recess."

"You didn't? Why not? Weren't you feeling well? What happened?"

"I felt fine. I just didn't want to play. I wanted to sit on the bench and talk to Michael."

"Michael?"

"Yeah, Michael. He's new, and he's not even from Japan. He's from a different country."

"Which country?"

"What? Oh, I don't know. I didn't ask him, but I like him Mommy."

"You do?"

"Mmm-hmm, he's my boyfriend. He likes me, too. {dreamy sigh} He told me."

"Wow! Really? Umm...so, what did you guys talk about on the bench today at recess?"

"Oh, only gentle things. He brought trophies for Show and Tell. I think he won them for some kind of sports playing or something, but he doesn't like to be rowdy. He's a quiet boy, Mommy, and really nice. He's a ni-sa boy, not a ninja. If he was a ninja, I wouldn't talk to him. They're way too wild!"

***
"Hey, what's the matter Penny? You look frustrated about something."

"I'm just so mad at Elmo, Mommy! He's always coloring." Turning to the TV: "Why are you always coloring, Elmo? That looks like a piece of chalk anyway. Can't you see that doesn't look like a crayon? Ugh! You don't even know me." Turning off the TV: "I'm going to do a puzzle."

***
So there you have it, the girls in my house like nice boys, not ninjas, and they expect brilliance and variety from their famous men.

Case Closed.

Opinion Formed.

The End.

(Except seriously, who doesn't like ninjas? That's weird, isn't it?)

  2. The conversations you have are amazing! This blog is going to be such a beautiful tribute to her....I hope you print "the best of" for a wedding present. They're priceless!

Given the choice, I'd rather have a nice boy over a ninja any day!

  3. Oh, boys. Is Chris ready to come home and interview Michael on his intentions?

I don't know what to do about things like this! Mia's become very interested in boys this year -- mostly as playmates, but there's a definite sparkle in her eye. For instance, the FAVORITE part of her day, each day this week, has been when Austin chases her around the playground. She LOVES it. Unlike your tender and sweet Katherine, Mia seems to thrive on the action and wildness of boys. I'm a little concerned. At least Austin's not trying to kiss her, though.

Which is happening with a boy in our neighborhood...

    I'm not ready for this!

And, ninjas?! Can't stand 'em. Though I have a feeling Mia loves them...

  4. Not to worry, Sarah --

Two weeks ago Katherine had a different boyfriend and they spent every afternoon at the park chasing each other around, shouting "I'm going to kiss you!" and then running faster. I thought it was hilarious -- and hey, at least she came home tired!

I told Chris about it though (because I *was* a little worried) and he said, "Oh yeah, that's a fun game. I used to play that at recess." Then he tried to claim chasing-kissing was really just a form of tag, but now that you mention it, maybe we need to have a talk about HIS intentions...

  5. Seriously...I love me some ninjas. But Penelope has a point about Elmo. Why does it look like chalk? So weird.
    Best,

  7. Very funny. You are so good to document these snippets. Not only will you love being able to look back and remember those exchanges, but your girls will really love having these bits and pieces, too.

And regarding Elmo...Penelope is exactly right! But Ninjas are all the rage in our house right now so Katherine might have a difficult job of convincing Camille otherwise.

I got an e-mail a few weeks ago that Camille got in trouble at school for not only kissing one but two boys during recess. I think we are in for some trouble...

  8. SO this is how it all starts, huh? I can't believe your daughter doesn't like ninjas though. I always thought they were dreamy and mysterious. :p

    What a cute post!

  10. "If he was a ninja, I wouldn't talk to him. They're way too wild!"

Lol. That is funny! I guess it is a good thing that your daughter is staying away from wild men. That will probably off in the long run!

Very funny stuff at your house! Glad we connected! Can't wait to get to know you more!
